Our Story
Knox Vineyards started the way most real things do — not with a business plan, but with a decade of genuine obsession. Matthew Knox spent more than ten years making wine at home before planting the current estate vineyard in Chalfont in 2020. That time mattered. It meant that when it came to choosing what to grow, the decision was deliberate: cold-climate native and hybrid varieties — Catawba, Corot Noir, Noiret, Marechal Foch, Niagara — not because they were fashionable, but because they actually belong here. They thrive in the Mid-Atlantic rather than merely surviving it, and that difference shows in the glass.
Knox Vineyards is a family-owned operation, and it is run like one: personal, hands-on, and completely on-site. Every bottle produced here — from the cluster on the vine to the label on the shelf — is grown, harvested, fermented, aged, and bottled right here in Bucks County. That end-to-end control is not incidental. It is the whole point. The fewer hands between the vine and the bottle, the more of the vineyard actually ends up in the wine.
In 2025, Knox Vineyards was voted Best Winery by both the Bucks County Herald and the Bucks Mont Community's Choice Awards. The 2024 Corot Noir then took home a Gold Medal at the Libation Wine, Beer and Spirits Awards and a Silver from the American Wine Society. Four awards in one year. It meant a great deal — and it raised the bar, which is exactly where we want it.
How We Farm
Farming a small estate well requires taking it seriously, and at Knox Vineyards that means data. The vineyard is monitored by on-site weather stations measuring air temperature, humidity, wind, rainfall, leaf wetness, soil moisture, and soil temperature — in real time, all season. That data feeds a vine disease prediction model, so any intervention in the vineyard happens because the numbers say it is actually needed, not out of habit or precaution. Less unnecessary spraying, more targeted decision-making.
Above the ground, NDVI satellite imagery tracks vine vigor block by block across the estate. Below it, cover crops do the heavy work: mustard, crimson clover, and wildflowers manage weeds, hold the soil in place, build organic matter, and fix nitrogen naturally season after season. Small-farm winemaking done with uncommon precision.
